STORE CATTLE
Store cattle met a sharper trade throughout, with an increased entry forward and strong buyer demand.
Simmentals sold to £2700, consigned by regular vendors Barlow Bros, Croston. WT Eastham & Sons, Goosnargh sold British Blue steers to £2420, with a strong entry of Blues from J Prest & Son, Bay Horse, reaching £2350.
Charollais steers sold to £2380 from BN Greenwood Ltd, Catterall. Angus cattle remain particularly sought after at Lancaster, with a ring full of steers achieving £2300, from both H Birkett & Son, Overton, and J Lamb, Glasson.
Heifers topped at £2180 for a single Charolais from AJ Taylor, Galgate, closely followed by a trio of British Blues from JW Atkinson, Bentham, at £2100.
A small entry of feeding bulls sold to £1620 from WR & CM Lawrenson, Winmarleigh.
In total, 92 store cattle sold in excess of £2000 this week, highlighting the strength of demand. More cattle are required next Friday to fulfil buyer demand.
CAST / OTM CATTLE
A larger show of cast cattle was forward, with the trade just slightly easier on the week.
Cast cows sold to a top of 329.5p/kg for a British Blue from D J Townley, Ashton, whilst dairy cows achieved 259.5p/kg from J Bargh & Son, Heaton with Oxcliffe. The top grossing cow was a Friesian from J Hoggarth & Sons, Slyne, realising £2,003.
OTM heifers topped at 279.5p/kg, with a top gross price of £1869, both from Wannops Farms, Morecambe.
Cast steers achieved a top gross of £2028 for a Limousin from D & N Davies, Nateby, with a top price of 329.5p/kg achieved by A & E Clarkson, Thurnham for an Angus.
R Cowin & Sons, Kirkby Lonsdale, sold a cast Angus bull to a top of £2499.
